Opened concurrently with the Tretyakovsky Passage store, Barvika, in the wealthy Moscow suburbs, followed a radically different design approach. In contrast to the Passage store, with it’s conscious Czarist trappings, Barvika takes it’s cues from the sleek, Scandinavian style center by Herzog & DeMiron. The interior juxtaposes a rough limestone floor & teak ceiling with smooth, pared down wall surfaces. The exterior is kept quite restrained, in keeping with it’s context.
